Joh 15:1  “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

Joh 15:2  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Joh 15:3  Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.

Joh 15:4  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

Joh 15:5  I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Joh 15:6  If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

Joh 15:7  If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Joh 15:8  By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

  • There is a grace period for those that become unfruitful
  • My testimony, God is looking for fruit from our lives.
  • Matt 20 in the market place Jesus employs workers for the harvest, EVERYONE got employed to work and not stand idle!! Fruitfulness

  1. If a fruitless branch is cut off and burnt, every follower of Christ should give attention to this topic…
    1. When we make a fire at home, we search for dead, dried branches..they burn well…
  2. We are the branches, the branch doesn’t generate it’s own fruit, it comes from the life of the vine/tree (Christ)
    1. Is He in you?? If you’re not sure…STOP wasting time….Ask Him to save you and repent NOW
    2. Through the Atonement, Christ Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to dwell in us!!
    3. It was better that I go….that He comes…but we still want Jesus to turn up?!
    4. If He did, He would do all the work and we’d be watching….With the Spirit, we do the work with Him with us
    5. If you abide in Him, He abides is you!!! Abide means: abode, home..
  3. The fruit is for others, those who come into contact with us
    1. The Fruit of the vine, the new wine, comes through us!
    2. We are the vessel submitted to the call of the Holy Spirit to move through us
    3. Are tasty are you to others? Sweet or sour?
  4. You cannot walk in the Spirit whilst rejecting the Holy Spirit’s directives!!
Many have more and more rejected the work of the Holy Spirit and to do so is to reject the very life flow from the vine, He is our very source of life to our mortal bodies….Stop fighting Him, repent and let Him flow again.

    1. The SAP of the tree is the Holy Spirit flowing through the vine and to us…
    2. Being Spirit led is a relationship, talk to the Holy Spirit
    3. Praying in the Spirit
    4. Being a vessel for the Spirit to speak through you
      1. Prophecy
      2. Tongues and interpretation of tongues
  • Healings, teaching, worship and song and more
  • Let Him flow…
  1. Our Fruitfulness isn’t actually SOULS
    1. We cannot save anyone, The fruit of the Spirit through us leads people to salvation
    2. Otherwise, Noah would have been rejected!! But he continued to do what God had told him to do!
    3. Unlike Esau, who traded his inheritance for a bowl of soup!! All that God had given Him, he counted it as nothing and the word says Jacob I loved but Esau I have hated!!! Why?  He did nothing with his potential

So lets take a look at the fruit we are to display?
Worth noting, these fruit cannot be produced of the flesh, they are SPIRIT fruits. You cannot attain these characteristics from a humanistic approach without God.

Context: Apostle Paul is teaching freedom from law and living in the Spirit

Gal 5:13  For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Gal 5:14  For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love (agape) your neighbor as yourself.”

Gal 5:16  But I say, walk=(live) by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Gal 5:17  For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

Gal 5:18  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Gal 5:19  Now the works(toil) of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20  idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
Gal 5:21  envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit (to pluck from the vine or tree) of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Gal 5:23  meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law (means living righteous living as God).
Gal 5:24  And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Gal 5:25  If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step (military term: to walk in rank, file and order) with the Spirit.

Worth noting, the fruits of the Spirit are directly opposed to the works of the flesh.

Love is opposed to hatred; joy to emulations and envying; peace to variance, strife, and seditions; longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, and meekness, to wrath and murders; faith to idolatry, witchcraft, and heresies; and self-control to adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, drunkenness, and revellings.

  1. Love – Agape unconditional (Gods love, charitable, benevolence, love feast)
    1. The first mention principle, EVERYTHING starts with LOVE & is motivated by love
1Co 13:7Love bears all things (to cover with silence), believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love NEVER FAILS!
    2. 1Co 13:13-14 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
  2. Joy – not an emotion like happiness, to be exceedingly joyful & cheerfulness
    1. Heb 12:2 looking to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right of the throne of God.
  3. Peace – shalom Hebrew & Greek Irene
Generally it denotes quiet and tranquillity, prosperity and happiness of life; fulness of health and welfare.

    1. Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard (watcher in advance as a garrison, army) your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  4. Patience – Forbearance & longsuffering suffer long
    1. Jas 1:4 But let patience have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing.
  5. Kindness – Useful excellence in character & integrity (that is applied and used)
The other day I went to the tip story…

    1. Eph 2:6-7and He raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

  1. Goodness – Right standing with God, righteousness prepared to do the WORD for people.
Able to sympathize with persons in their distress; in assisting forgiveness, generosity, obey the word.

    1. Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
  2. Faithfulness “Faith” a conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to Jesus and divine things
    1. Our faith is a founded upon God, the operation of His power, and the work of his Spirit, which therefore must have a place among his fruits; and which displays Christ our salvation!!

      Eph 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
  3. Meekness
    1. A heart of humility, gentleness, selflessness, quick to give glory to God for all blessing and favor not claiming for self.
  4. Self-control, temperance
    1. To display purity in sexual conduct and sobriety being sober minded, and moderation in eating and drinking.
