Some facts about Nehemiah:
• Nehemiah means “Comfort of God.”
• Nehemiah is the cupbearer to the King of Persia.
• Like Moses 1,000 years earlier, Nehemiah was also willing to give up the comforts of a palace in order to answer
God’s calling

Whatever it is, we will face obstacles like Nehemiah, but with God, the job will be completed and
many generations yet to come will benefit from our cost of labour!!!
When we are living unto Him doing His work, we are a sweat fragrance to the world and to His

Nehemiah 1:1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it happened in the month
Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
Neh 1:2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and men of Judah. And I asked them concerning
the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. Neh 1:3 And
they said to me, The remnant left of the captivity there in the province is in great affliction and
shame. And the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.
Neh 1:4 And it happened when I heard these words, I sat down and wept.
And I mourned for days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of Heaven.

1. Nehemiah’s heart was moved after hearing of God’s people and Holy City!!
a. This is the moment where the vision starts
b. One could of easily said, its just a thought, it’s too hard, the odds are crazy…
c. But NO, Nehemiah was actually being led by God to do a job!!
d. When was the last time you wept for your unsaved family, your children, your city, your boss, someone sick
that you walked past in the shops?

2. Nehemiah – Nehemiah knew what it meant to pray!!
a. Neh 1:5 And I said, I pray You, O Jehovah, the God of Heaven, the great and awesome God who
keeps covenant and mercy for those who love Him and keep His commandments;
Neh 1:6 let Your ear now be open, and Your eyes open, so that You may hear the prayer of Your
servant, which I pray before You now, day and night, for the sons of Israel Your servants
When opposition arose from without, the people prayed Neh 4:9 But we made our prayer unto our
God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

3. Nehemiah – United a team, he understood the power in unity.
Neh 1:6 I pray before You now, day and night, for the sons of Israel Your servants, and confessing the
sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both I and my father’s house have
Neh 1:7 We have acted very wickedly against You, and have not kept the commandments nor the
statutes nor the judgments which You commanded Your servant Moses.
Neh 1:8 I pray You, remember the Word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, If you sin,
I will scatter you among the nations,
Neh 1:9 but if you turn to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though you were cast out to
the outermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather you from there and will bring you to the place
that I have chosen to set My name there.
Neh 1:10 And these are Your servants and Your people whom You have redeemed by Your great power
and by Your strong hand.

4. Nehemiah – remained disciplined staying on task without interruptions
Neh 6:1 And it happened, when Sanballat, and Tobiah and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies
heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no break left in it (though at that time I had not set the
doors on the gates),
Neh 6:2 Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono.
But they thought to do me harm.
Neh 6:3 And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, so I cannot come down. Why should the
work cease while I leave it and come down to you?
Neh 6:4 And they sent to me four times in this way. And I answered them in the same way.

a. How does the enemy get you DOWN OFF YOUR WALL?
i. It’s not normally going to be grouse sin, if he can keep you BUSY doing insignificant stuff…
ii. If the enemy can sow a little discouragement…whats the point..I’m attaining nothing! He
will get you down off your wall!!!
iii. If he can sow doubt..did the Lord say to do this? … YOU’LL COME DOWN OFF THE WALL
