The Power of Blessing

Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing
that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male
and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill
the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living
thing that moves on the earth.”

the earth. This blessings from God in the beginning of mankind has still got power in blessing you and I

Isaac and Rebekah have twin boys Esau and Jacob

Genesis 25:20-23 NKJV
“Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of the Syrian of Aram. Now Isaac
pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah
his wife conceived and bore two twin boys (a double blessings)..Esau 1
st and Jacob second!

OBSERVATIONS to this story:
• Isaac the father loved Esau and Rebekah the mum, loved Jacob
• Jacob the second oldest son lives a life desiring the love and approval of his father
• Nearing Isaac’s death, Rebekah with Jacob deceived Isaac in stealing Esau’s blessing as the first
• Esau returns home and cry’s bitterly because his brother deceived him.Esau now wants to kill Jacob,
• Jacob runs for his life
• Years later Jacob returns to his family and on the way he has an encounter with The angel of The Lord
• Jacob refuses to let the angel go until He blesses him. So because of it, Jacob now walks with a limp,
his running days are now over. SOME BLESSING HEY?
• Jacob continues on his journey home
• Now Esau is coming with 400 men to meet Jacob, Jacob is reminded of those word…I will kill you
brother!!! If it was me, I’d be thinking…God, I asked for a blessing now I can’t even run for my life!
• Esau sees Jacob staggering with a limp and in a moment of compassion Esau is struck to the heart
and spares his brother’s life, embracing him with love!! Sound like a blessing now??
• In stead of death, Jacob gets grace…that which he did not deserve!!
• Maybe Jacobs blessing came in a way that he didn’t understand it? Ever happen to you?
• Maybe Jacob could impact more people in his lifetime with his limp than his strength?? What about
your limp?

What are you prepared to give up in order for a blessing to flow to others??
